Subaru Advanced Tourer: A Mans Hybrid

Subaru is a car manufacturer modeled on the basis of performance and speed. They are kings of the rally world and legends in drifting. If you look at their history of cars, the 22b, the Legacy, and most importantly the Impreza and its WRX and STi Versions, it’s not hard to see that Subaru puts out some of the world most efficient and quickest cars on the market today. But today I’m not going to talk about any of the previously stated cars. You see, the Tokyo Auto Show was a marvel considering the vehicles and concepts it showcased. And chief among the car companies was Subaru. Not only did they reveal their 2012 BRZ sports coupe, but they showed off their new hybrid, supposedly going into production in Q4 of this year or sometime in 2013. I know, a hybrid. But it’s not what you think.

The Subaru Advanced Tourer concept isn’t anything like a Toyota Prius. The Subaru will be a combination of an electric engine, fused with Subaru’s legendary 1.6-2.0 liter direct injection in line-4 Boxer engine. Then to add to the madness they’re going to turbo-charge the engine. So far from what it sounds it isn’t a hybrid. It’s another performance Subaru. Add in a brand new Lineartronic continuously variable transmission system (first in the world by the way) Subaru estimates that the horsepower for the base model to be about 315bhp. That’s what the Impreza runs. And they say that another 30-55 horsepower for the WRX and STi models. So if I’m going to save the world by lowering green emissions, then this is by no doubt, the car of my choice.

The Monster; The Nurburgring Nordschleife

The world of racing is a world of amazement and excitement. There are many endurances and hardships we face without choice. Sure you may have to get up at 5 or 6 or whatever time you need to wake up to go to work, catch a bus, or prepare breakfast. That’s extreme. Maybe you work a 9 to 5 shift. Maybe you only get 4 or five hours of sleep a day. All in all you have a rough day. But all of the previously stated things are nothing compared to the event I’m writing about.

In the crazy land of Nuremburg Germany, there lies the ultimate test of endurance and hardship. Imagine this. You’re in a full bodied fire retardant suit. The temperature is a blistering 106 degrees inside the car you’re in.  You’re traveling an average of 85-90 miles per hour. You’re feeling twice the force of gravity every time you turn. The only thing you can hear is the sound of an enormous performance engine and the faint whisper your car tearing through the air. For 6 hours straight. With only an average 14 second break when you need to refuel or tires. This is the challenge of the Nurburgring Nordshleife 24 hour endurance race. The Nordshleife track is full of twists, turns, and hazy straight-aways. It’s a 15.8 mile track that tests the skill of every driver that tries to defeat the monster known as the Nurburgring Nordshleife.

In the 2010 Nurburgring 24 hour race, people wanted to see a wide variety of things. They wanted to see their favorite team win, or a crash, or just the pure joy and excitement that goes with Performance Motorsports. Most people predicted that the Porsche team would win again, seeing as they have dominated the race for the past 4 years. Other popular manufactures such as Ferrari, BMW and Aston Martin were also fan favorites. The race begins with Porsche gaining and dominating the lead as usual in their new Porsche 911 GT3 hybrid, which could run an average 12 laps longer than the other cars. But a flywheel malfunction caused the Porsche to be docked for the rest of the race. Such a shame. But in the end, it was the #25 BMW team that took the win in their M3 GT3, leading with 156 laps completed around the 15.8 mile course that’s 2465 miles driven all together.

This article is important because it is unbiased and states the facts. MotorTrend delivers you a reading experience that makes you feel like the car your reading about is utterly amazing. Even if everyone else thinks it isn’t. There are so many car magazines and websites that scoff at Asian cars and laugh at European cars. But MotorTrend treats every car like a great car. And that’s how it should be.

This article strikes me on a personal note. The passion, the joy, and all enthusiastic emotions that they use in writing about this car is truly epic. It’s like how a proud father talks about his beloved son to his friends. Today we live in a world of tiny 1200cc engines and pathetic 4 speed transmission. We are told to trade our big V8s with hundreds of horsepower and extreme turbo chargers. Then we again get barked and ordered by general society that we need to save the environment and cut back on green house emissions. But MotorTrend doesn’t care. They only care that they love cars, and they don’t let anyone tell them different. They share the same logic as me. So in simplified terms this article is made for car lovers. And it just so happens I’m in love with cars.

Hurricanes are forces of nature that induce wind speeds of immense power. They cause destruction anywhere they go. But, hurricanes stop being categorized at category 5. Category 5 is the most destructive and devastating hurricane that can happen. A category five hurricane averages 156 mile per hour wind speeds. But that is very pitiful. My 1988 Honda CR-X can obtain those speeds. But there is a category six, and it’s not a hurricane. It’s the Buggati Veyron Super Sport.  This isn’t a car. It’s a monster. Subsequently the records and achievements this monster produces are illusory. But by some miracle they become a reality. Everything about this car is category six. Its 8.0 liter, quad turbo charged (that’s 4 turbo chargers), 16 cylinder engine to produce 1200 horsepower and nonstop excitement. It’s the very embodiment of the devil. In 2.4 seconds you’re doing 60 miles per hour. It’s top speed in 267 miles per hour. At 100 mph air feels just a little thicker. At 200 mph air starts to feel like soup. And at 267 mph air feels like whipped cream. The tires can only last 15 minutes under top speed before the burst and cause a horrible accident. But that’s fine because it runs out of fuel in 12 minutes. And even the price is category 6. Buying a Buggati Veyron Super Sport will only set you back $2,700,000.00. This car truly is the pinnacle of performance technology. Therefore this should be the basis for every car produced in the future. It’s a car for the brave. It’s a car for the primal. It’s a car for the implacable. This car is perfection. And if you can’t see it then you’re a caveman that rattles around in his own filth or a small child that still spoils their diaper. My Topic.

Well I guess here is the big moment you’ve all been waiting for. Just kidding this blog is kind of ghetto so I’ve decided to write about gangsters, thugs and gangs. Because I’m gangsta.  Just kidding all those things are boring. So I’ve decided to write about something that really matters in the world. I’m going to write about something that every civilized human being can relate to. Cars. Cars aren’t just the single most potent way of transportation for mostly every person in the world; they are also one of the most adrenaline pumping, heart pounding ways to experience life. In a sense, cars are the ultimate way to have fun in this modern day and age. Mostly everyone in the world sees, drives, or rides in a car, therefore making them a part of nearly every human being on this planet. Many people deny their love of cars and speed. But deep down inside every human being has a primal urge. An urge to go fast.  An urge to feel the g force that comes with a sharp turn. The urge to smell the burning rubber from tires. It lies inside all of us. Take a dentist, for example. He drives a BMW M5. It’s a very luxurious, safe, and comfortable car. He can take the kids to school, drive to work, and stop to get dinner very smoothly and comfortably. But that’s not why he bought the car. He bought it to go from 0 to 60mph in 4.4 seconds. He bought it to blaze down the road with a manual 7 speed gearbox at 190 mph. He bought it because he has that primal urge just like everyone else. So that’s what I’m going to write about. The car. Or in layman’s terms, the best material item in the known world.

Goals for 2012.

For the glorious year of 2012 i have many lame and retarded goals that i wish to for fill. But chief among these lame-tastic goals is to is to turn my 1988 Honda CR-X into a fast and furious race car. The first step to this would be buying a new air intake system, preferably one from AEM or K&N air filter manufactures. After that is all sorted out I would need to get a new race-type exhaust system. Both would range from $120 to $200 dollars depending on the brand. So all together the two parts could cost me up to $400. I could get a body kit for it, but would rather turbocharge my engine and get a new clutch. Both options are expensive but the would be nice to have. Some new front and rear tail light would be nice too. All in all if i could win a few drag and track races down in Phoenix by the end of the year the my goal would be complete. Oh and i also want to quit smoking. Aye!!!!!
